Sabres Trade Leopold To Blues

The underachieving Sabres began retooling for the future by trading defenseman Jordan Leopold to the contending Blues on Saturday, according to an ESPN.com report.

In exchange for Leopold, Buffalo received a second-round pick and a conditional fifth-round selection in the June draft.

Coyotes Send Kessy To Oilers For Rieder

Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired forward Tobias Rieder from the Oilers in exchange for forward Kale Kessy.

Rieder recorded 27-29-56 and 12 penalty minutes in 52 games with the Kitchener Rangers (OHL) this season. In 2011-12, the Landshut, Germany native collected 42-42-84 and 25 PIM in 60 games with the Rangers. 

Rieder was originally drafted by the Oilers in the fourth round (114 overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Bruins GM: Thought Team Won Iginla 'Sweepstakes'

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said Thursday that he was told by the Flames on Wednesday afternoon that Jarome Iginla would be traded to Boston, only to be informed late that night that the player had chosen the Penguins instead.

The Bruins thought they were sending defenseman Matt Bartkowski, prospect Alexander Khokhlachev and a first-round draft pick to the Flames in exchange for Iginla.

Flames Trade Iginla To Pens

In a shocking turn of events Thursday morning, the Flames announced trading Jarome Iginla to the Penguins for Pittsburgh's first-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, the rights to unsigned draft choices Kenneth Agostino and Ben Hanowski.

Throughout much of Wednesday night, reports from numerous media outlets had Iginla being traded to the Bruins, but the Flames announced the deal with Pittsburgh at 1:30 a.m. ET Thursday, not long after their home win against the Avalanche.

Report: Flames Send Iginla To Bruins

The Flames have agreed to trade Jarome Iginla to the Bruins, TSN reported Wednesday night. 

Neither team confirmed the deal, but Calgary did scractch its captain from its game Wednesday against the Avalanche.

Sources told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun earlier Wednesday that the Bruins and Flames were in talks regarding Iginla, but a source later said the deal was not yet complete.

Pens Send Picks To Sharks For Murray

The Penguins stayed active on the trade front Monday, acquiring defenseman Douglas Murray from the Sharks, according to an ESPN.com report.

In return, the Sharks get a pair of second-round picks (2013 and 2014). The second pick in 2014 is based on Pittsburgh winning two playoff rounds or re-signing Murray. If neither occurs, the Sharks get a third round pick in 2014.

Brendan Morrow Joins Penguins

Stars captain Brendan Morrow has decided to waive his no-trade clause and agreed to join the Penguins in a trade, according to an ESPN.com report on Sunday.

In the trade, Pittsburgh gets Morrow and a third-round pick in 2013, while Dallas gets prospect defenseman Joe Morrow and a fifth-round pick in 2013.

Leafs Trade David Steckel To Ducks

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded center David Steckel to the Anaheim Ducks.

In exchange, the Maple Leafs will receive right-winger Ryan Lasch and Anaheim’s seventh-round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Lasch will be assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Lasch, 26, is a native of Lake Forest, California and was a free agent signing of the Ducks on May 31, 2012. He is currently playing in the Swedish Elite League with the Vaxjo Lakers. Lasch represented Team USA at the 2012 IIHF World Championship and collected two assists in seven games. Last season, he captured the Finnish Elite League scoring title by recording 62 points (24 goals and 38 assists).

Leafs Acquire Marshall From Capitals For Deschamps

Dave Nonis, Senior Vice-President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that the club has acquired defenceman Kevin Marshall from the Capitals in exchange for forward Nicolas Deschamps. Marshall will be assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Marshall, 24, played in 52 games with the AHL’s Hershey Bears this season, registering a goal and four assists for five points with 77 penalty minutes and a plus-five (+5) rating. He was originally drafted by the Flyers in the second round, 41st overall, in the 2007 Entry Draft.

Senators Send Draft Pick To Wild For Kassian

The Senators have acquired forward Matt Kassian from the Wild on Tuesday for a sixth-round pick in the 2014 draft.

The 26-year-old Kassian has been playing for Houston of the AHL. In nine games with the Aeros, Kassian has one goal and 12 penalty minutes, according to an ESPN.com report.
